Did you Know? Mattress Info!

INNERSPRING Mattresses: The most widely purchased type of mattress uses the steel coil support system. You can’t judge however the quality of a mattress solely on the number of coils it has. A high coil count doesn’t automatically mean it’s a better mattress than the others. The combination of the innerspring system and superior materials layered within it is what makes the difference. Get to know what is inside your mattress!

Memory Foam Mattresses: Do not assume that solid foam mattresses all feel the same. There is really a wide choice of feel and density. There are two primary ways your foam mattress is constructed: one is made of a solid core of foam and the other is a combination of several layers of different types of foam. The difference in feel can come from how much memory foam makes up your bed, 10 inches? 15 inches? At Beds Unlimited, we carry the Full line of Tempur-pedic, the leading mattress company in memory foam.

LATEX Mattresses: Made from material derived from rubber trees (technical name Hevea brasiliensis), latex is a natural product that is well known for its many natural and cooling qualities. Latex mattresses are preferred by some for their sustainable design and hypo-allergenic, anti-bacterial, and anti-dust mite qualities. An environmentally conscious latex mattress would be a unique addition to building a healthier and greener lifestyle.

Pillows: Your pillow should give you the right cushioning to position your head and neck properly during sleep. A properly matched pillow will hold your head and neck to align you in the same way as if you were standing up with your shoulders and neck aligned. SIDE sleepers may want a fairly firm pillow to give extra support to the head and neck. BACK sleepers may want to find a pillow to cradle the head with the right amount of “give” to prevent throwing off the alignment crucial to your comfortable sleep. Stomach sleepers should choose a soft pillow that will lessen the strain on the neck. You don’t want to find your neck higher than your body. Again it is all about alignment when choosing the proper pillow.

Foundations or Box Spring: A good foundation or box spring is extremely important to keeping the longevity of your mattress. Don’t put a new mattress on an old foundation! When you select the right mattress purchase its correct foundation because the two are designed to work best together. They were properly designed to compliment and support the other in a way your older or other box spring can’t. FACT: buying the mattress without its matching foundation may affect the terms of the warranty!!

Adjustable Beds: Electrically adjustable beds allow you to adjust the head and foot of the bed to fit your comfort needs. Many sleepers use them to sit up and read or watch tv. The adjustable beds act as the foundation for your mattress. Mattresses not built for this purpose should not be used with an adjustable bed frame. For example, most innerspring mattresses do not have enough flexibility to adjust this way. On the opposite end all memory foam mattresses are available with the adjustable bed option as well as a few others that have the correct materials to do so.

Futons: Futons are a popular alternative for those who need a sofa by day and a mattress by night. The mattresses must be very flexible to be able to fold and unfold, so they are typically made of cotton, synthetic fibers and foam in a number of combinations. Our stores are also now stocking a new memory foam futon solution.
